Spring Cleaning!! You might wonder why is garden cleaning necessary...?

Spring is here and now is the time to clean your gardens by removing all the dead foliage and pruning overgrown plants.

I often tell people to leave all dead foliage in the garden during fall and winter because these places become homes for many many insects during the cold months. Also, wildlife usually eat the remaining parts of dried up flowers, seeds and leafs. Overall, dead gardens if left untouched during fall and winter are extremely beneficial to local ecosystems. So in a way you are helping these creatures survive through the cold weather by giving them homes and food!

When its time to clean, if you sit back and think about it, cleaning a garden is a daunting thing to think about if you don't know why it's necessary. The whole point of cleaning is to help your baby plants by providing them with sunlight! They are probably screaming for light because they are covered by dead leafs and are demanding that you acknowledge their presence. Of course, this only applies to perennials (plants that come back every year). Think of it this way, plants during early spring need all your love and attention a lot more because they are babies.

The other benefit of cleaning and pruning your garden in early spring is that you get to see if you want to re-design your garden. It gives you inspiration and enough time to start planning for the summer's garden. But most importantly, it helps your Mental Health!!! If you need a good reason get out there and clean your garden, do it because it helps you!
